Frequently Asked Questions

When can my group prepare a meal?

Groups are welcome to prepare lunch on weekdays for residents of our LifeChange program working at Thrift 'n' Thrive. Meal time is 12 p.m.

Groups that would like to prepare a meal at any other time may do so for residents of our LifeChange program living at the Louisville campus. Click here for more information.

How many people will we be feeding?

Please plan to feed 10-15 residents. The actual number of residents may be less depending on a given day's occupancy rate and our residents' work schedules. We are not able to provide headcounts in advance, however please rest assured that leftovers never go to waste.

Can we eat with the residents?

Due to space limitations at Thrift 'n' Thrive, this particular opportunity does not include an opportunity to eat with the residents. If this is a desire for your group, please consider preparing a meal for LifeChange residents at the Louisville campus.

Who will provide the ingredients?

It's a great blessing to us that volunteers are willing to provide the ingredients for lunch. Plus, we've found this to make menu planning significantly easier for your group. We recommend group members pitch in on purchasing the ingredients or take responsibility for different components of the meal.

When and where will we prepare the meal?

Please plan to prepare lunch ahead of time at the location of your choosing and deliver it to Thrift 'n' Thrive ready to serve. Boxed/bagged lunches or disposable trays are ideal. You may arrive between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m.

What kind of food should we prepare?

We encourage you to put together a lunch that's hearty and filling, but also healthy and balanced. We particularly encourage the use of lots of fresh produce and whole grains. You may also provide dessert and/or non-alcoholic beverages like tea and lemonade, however that's not required. You do not need to bring disposable plates, utensils, or cups unless you would like to donate some to the Mission.

Where can our volunteers park?

Free parking is available in the lot behind the shopping center in which Thrift 'n' Thrive is located. This lot is monitored 24/7 by security cameras.

Will anyone from Louisville Rescue Mission be there to help us?

Yes, a staff member is always present at Thrift 'n' Thrive. When you arrive, please ring the doorbell at the donation entrance and a staff member will welcome you into the building, help you unload lunch, and answer any questions you have before leaving.
